Click to view the photo album, featuring the trip we took by train from Los Angeles to Chicago, with a pit stop at the Grand Canyon.

Scintillating thoughts on the process of getting photographs online, after the jump.

Spent a good part of the weekend editing, uploading and tagging photos from the trip, first on Facebook, then on Flickr. Didnt want to stick just with FB since altho you can share the pics, you cant pull them out and re-present them in the blog, as I’m doing now.

Flickr to me is not an intuitive site, so it’s taken me a couple attempts (months apart) to find my way around. My snapshots seem better suited to the simple social network than a photography-oriented site that attracts some extra serious photogs.

When I first created my account in August of last year, I had snagged a thumbnail of a photo (not one of mine) for a previous blog entry. I linked from the image as well as from the text directly to the original image on Flickr. But then I dropped the photog a note, asking if it was okay. She wrote back “No it not ok to use my picture on your blog :o)” Eerk. I’m not sure that she even saw it. I honestly didnt think anyone could be so protective of such a minor usage, with full credit. But that’s not the point and I took it down. Lesson learned: next time dont ask. Just kidding :~j

Flipping through my slideshow, I realize I edited the pics all different sizes… boooo… The first edits are small for the blog, there’s a batch of medium size ones for Facebook and a bunch of full-size ones thrown into Flickr. Gah. The full-size ones do look a lot better, hope they’re not too slow-loading. Cant believe I spent so much time on such underwhelming pictures (using this little camera). Ah well, learning curve. Next up: video!

Here’s that album again.

Loved seeing your trip. You’ve obviously inherited the photography gene. My first thought was, How come I didn’t see these while you were visiting?…then realized that there was just too much going on to get everything in. I would have liked to have seen M’s mask, though.
