housekeeping ~ WordPress, Twitter, Flickr
A few notes on how I’m feeling about my blog, Twitter and (what I think is about to be) my embrace of Flickr.
jeelago.net
I returned the Search and Tags to the sidebar of this site when I realized I couldn’t find a freaking thing on my own page. Forgot how much I stripped this blog down and ignored it. Still can’t bring myself to bring the blogroll back; I feel disconnected here.
twitterpation
The recent and ongoing fallout from the Twitter Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack may be to thank for me bringing my attention back to my own humble blog, something over which I have more direct control.
I still can’t post to Twitter via SMS or web, tho I have been able to make Seesmic and Twhirl (same company now) work from my computers. The Seesmic desktop is especially good, better than Tweetdeck.
The mobile browser on my phone won’t connect to Twitter at all and I didn’t have much luck with the ceTwit Twitter app for Windows Mobile.
So yea I’m a little twitterpated. Feel the need to feed my own content machine.
Flickr it is
After playing around with the excellent Next Gen Gallery for WordPress after my first successful test integrating Flickr and Facebook, I’ve come to a decision.
For my site, I’m going with Flickr for photo hosting. I’m getting more comfortable with the interface and have been able to get it to auto-update Facebook and accept photos posted via mobile phone email.
I really didn’t want to go with a TwitPic type service for hosting mobile uploads if something less fly-by-night like Flickr could do the job. I’ve always hated TwitPic anyway, since it doesn’t play nice with my phone.

Don’t forget to backup your photos on somewhere other than Flickr. They are under no obligation to “save” your photos if by some chance they decide to cancel your account. If a moderator decides that you are posting things you shouldn’t or is otherwise pissed off with you, they can cancel your account and it is up to you to prove yourself in the right, but good luck trying to get your pictures back up. I just joined up on Flickr as well, although I use Photobucket for hosting. I wanted someplace to post the pics that I thought were better than most of the ones I take.

thx for that note, Seanie Sean Passean! I usually have copies on my hard drive, but am trying to be more diligent about doing real backups.
At first I thought Flickr was just for really good pics, too, but they make it so easy to upload remotely and integrate with Facebook and WordPress that I said heck it and am putting up craptastic phone-cam pics if I feel like it. :~j
