Wow i can't believe it, great website!!!... I stopped drinking coffee and tea during the day on Wednesday felt great but then Friday daytime, legs and lower back began to ache!! Thought i had done something at the gym but no it must be the caffeine!! I have not felt this miserable since i've had the flu!!!!!

Quiting nicotine was a breeze compared to this!! Never putting myself through this again and never drinking anything except decaf in the future if ever!!!

Day 16
I haven't had a cup of coffee or tea for 16 days, still feeling so much better. Gave my coffee away last week, great feeling not needing to have it in the house! Still feels like an amazing achievement. I can go to Starbucks and happily have a rosé hip tea. I drink lots more water than I ever have, not having too much fruit tea now though as it was giving me acid. I'm happy with hot water and a bit of milk. I can't see myself ever going back to coffee. My alertness and energy is much more even throughout the day. If I feel tired in the evening, I just go to bed earlier. I still feel so much calmer about things than when I was drinking coffee, it's quite a release. I still enjoy reading these postings to remind me of what I've been through although withdrawal symptoms are starting to become a distant memory. I know I don't want the buzz of caffeine in my body anymore though, it's much easier living with a calmer body. Good luck to those of you with withdrawal symptoms, just remember every day is a massive achievement.

I have been off all caffeine for three weeks and I'm still experiencing withdrawal symptoms such as stomach cramps and diarrhea, and for some reason a blushed face. However, headaches and fatigue I was experiencing while drinking coffee have disappeared completely as well as some muscle and joint pain. I never would have thought that caffeine and perhaps some other substances in an everyday drink would make so feel so, literally, sick n tired.

Day 4: Great forum. Thanks for all your support, ladies and gentlemen. I realized that I was a slave to caffeine and that fear and anger were my constant companions. I have found that since quitting caffeine I am less emotionally attached to my thoughts. This is a huge positive. It is difficult to concentrate but I believe that in the long run my concentration will improve as a result of no longer ingesting this legal drug. Terrible lower back pain which I wasn't expecting. The headaches seem to have passed now though. No Pain. No Glory.

Wow. Great blog. I don't feel alone. Or nuts!

I quit 6 days ago. The second day I had a dull, persistent headache. The third I got a back ache which progressed to a full-on, intense body ache. Mainly in my lower back, hips, pelvis, thighs and knee joints. I thought I had arthritis... the pain radiated through my body, and no matter which position I tried, I could not sleep. I was drowsy and unable to concentrate.

Ibuprofen staves it off, as well as analgesics, aspirin, acetaminophen - don't waste time with ointments. Today, I still have an ache in the legs but for the first time in 4 days, am not taking pain meds. Holy moly!

I love coffee... drank a pot a day. But the withdrawal tells me something - many of the headaches and aches I've suffered from time to time were likely due to caffeine withdrawal. NO MORE! I will drink water.

I have many of the same complaints about hip and leg pain. Actually, I have had some of this for years but never associated it with caffeine. I saw something about aches and pains as well as causing dehydration so I decided to see if all of this is related to the coffee, chocolate, and pop. After 2 3/4 days of no caffeine my lower back, hips, and legs have been killimg me. Today everything from my hips to my calves felt like it was on fire. My answer is ibuprophen. I am pushing water consumption and will try eating bananas for the potassium. Thanks for putting all of your experiences on here...sure helps.

Day 6 today and I'm feeling so much better. I still have some back ache but no need for painkillers i can accept the low level pain. I feel so much better than I did drinking coffee, so much calmer, it's a really lovely feeling being relaxed all of the day. I had headaches yesterday morning on day 5 but they have gone today. Had a Great sleep last night and can only see positive things ahead. Today I am going to give away all of the coffee stashed away in a cupboard to a friend who drinks it. I don't want it in the house any more. Life is much better without it. I've had my last hot chocolate today for minimum caffeine input. Tomorrow it's just fruit teas only which I am really enjoying. For anyone battling with withdrawal symptoms keep going as its only a matter of time. It is so worth it to come out from the other side feeing better than when you were drinking caffeine and it feels like such an achievement having got though 5 days of feeling so unwell for the sake of a healthier body and mind.

I was experiencing sleep difficulties--waking up at 2 or 3 and roiling around in my head on every topic with no resolustions. This occurred for 5 nights in a row and I thought maybe I should cut my caffeine consumption. So I measured the amount of coffee I drank and it was about 500mg every morning. I mix my coffee to 1/2 decaf, 1/2 caf so two and 1/2 large mugs was about the norm. Just in the morning, never in the afternoon. But couldn't sleep, so I cut it by half the first day, then by a little more the second day. I am now just drinking about 200mgs per morning but I have been in a world of pain starting on the second day of cutting my intake. Leg, hip, shoulder pain. Also, chills and flu symptoms, no nausea, but night sweats. I have gone off caffeine before and it was usually terrible headaches, but I don't have headaches this time. Flu feelings every day. I take 1 200mg tablet of advil once a day. Today is better but I can't believe this this is taking so long. Tired of feeling bad. This site helped me immensely because I thought I had a terminal illness.
